As news broke today that former Beatles legend Paul McCartney said that his bandmate John Lennon is the one member who allegedly broke up The Beatles, it’s worth looking back on a “story within the story” that the media swept under the rug from earlier this year.

This time around, the news involves the son of the former Beatles legend and “Imagine” singer/songwriter, Sean Ono Lennon, who unleashed a series of illuminating quotes at the tail end of May 2021 that caught the attention of a small handful of media outlets.

Lennon, 46, is the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who has been a member of the bands Cibo Matto, the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, the Claypool Lennon Delirium, and even his parents’ band The Plastic Ono Band.

Earlier this year, he wrote a series of deep comments about what he deemed to be the pervasively negative impact of political correctness, beginning by stating that he was around when political correctness was created.

Lennon said that the goals of the political correctness movement were admirable at the beginning, and that those who adopted this way of thinking and speaking originally imagined” a better world.

Unfortunately for our society, this politically correct way of thinking and speaking could have unintended consequences, Lennon added.

Lennon added that political correctness has become a way to divide us, not to make the world a better place. While people’s feelings may have been placated, the unity and togetherness of communities have suffered, he believes, especially in regards to the world’s biggest melting pot: New York City, which he says is more segregated than ever before now.

Lennon who is part Asian, took issue with people believing and highlighting that race is one of the most interesting things about a person. He believes that we should go beyond the surface to see the most truly interesting aspects of each person, namely who they really are based on their personality, interests, skills and talents instead of race and ethnicity.

Later on in the summer, Lennon released another tweet that may have resonated with anyone who has felt out of place during the difficulties that have occurred since March 2020 and the unfathomable changes to society and freedom that have happened ever since, quoting the famous writer Kurt Vonnegut in his post.

While Lennon may not have the accolades, awards and worldwide acclaim that his father did, one thing’s for sure: he’s carrying on his father’s legacy the best way he knows how, sharing his own truth with his 327,000-plus social media followers.
