A father from British Columbia, Canada, says his family is being evicted from a Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver for not wanting to get the COVID-19 vaccine. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing a story like this. Many more from all across Canada and the US are being told. As the Government wants people to get vaccinated, many Americans and Canadians do not. Around half the population is estimated to be unvaccinated. The dad, Austin Furgason, even went as far as to share video online of him confronting staff at the facility where his 4-year-old son Jack has been receiving treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The video ended up going viral understandably.
“This is some kind of crazy evil like I’ve never seen in my life,” he said in the clip. Dumbfounded by their response.
The incident was preceded by an announcement made by Ronald McDonald House British in Columbia and Yukon of a vaccine mandate which thanks has been affecting many families.
According to the media publication the Daily Mail, the organization, which previously provided temporary housing for families of sick kids undergoing medical treatment, will now require all residents ages 5 and older to get vaccinated by January 17, with a two-week grace period. If residents don’t get their shots by that date, they’ll have to leave the facility on January 31. Barring them from their services. Medical segregation has become normalized for who can and cannot receive medical services.
This change was bad news for Furgason, who’s son was affected negatively by this new mandate. He was recorded confronting a manager about the new rule.
The dad shared the video in what went viral in a post on his Facebook page on January 11th. As he approached the manager, who wasn’t named in the video, he called the notice “disturbing.” You can see the post below..
“Is this saying that everybody who’s not vaccinated is getting evicted?” he asked.
To which the manager pointed out that there was a grace period where residents can get their first dose of the vaccine for free. In technology there is a saying that says “If it’s free you are the product.” and many people believe that rule in technology applies to the approach pharmaceutical companies are now taking with medicine, there is no such thing as a ‘free product’ in the real world. The free lunch is the priciest one.
“Let me get this straight, by the end of the month, my 4-year-old boy with leukemia is getting evicted because we don’t have a vaccine?” he asked.
The administrator told him that his son, who is under 5, would not be evicted, but the mandate would apply to parents, which upset the father, understandably.
“If he was six months older he would be evicted. But yeah because we don’t have the vaccine you’re going to kick us out in the snow with a few weeks notice,” he told her, before calling the move “evil.”
He argued that it shouldn’t matter if you’re vaccinated or not — “everyone knows you still have to wear the masks.”
He also pointed out that anyone could go out, catch COVID, and transmit it, “that’s why vaccinated people put masks on,” he said. “It doesn’t matter if they’re vaccinated or not.” They still transmit. Common sense and logic seems to be thrown out the window since the media has run this circus.
The dad then accused the mandate of forcing parents to choose between their kids’ health and their personal beliefs. He said that his son has received all the vaccines he’s eligible for and claimed that he and his wife are not “anti-vaxxers.”
The manager then asked if Furgason and his wife were vaccinated: “No.”
She then tried to explain that they were “protecting the safety of everybody in the house” but Furgason interjected that he still didn’t understand what the difference in risk was, vaccinated or not.
“What we’re trying to do is reduce our risks,” she explained.
“This is not Canada, this is an absolute disgrace to our country,” he said. “I thought that we were a country that stood against segregation.”
The video ended with the administrator thanking the dad for “letting me know your thoughts” and suggesting he reach out to his social worker to make new arrangements.
But that was just the beginning of the conversation. Furgason’s video has since been shared over 16,000 times and people in the comments section had differing opinions.
Some commenters empathized with the dad’s anger.
“I’m glad guys like you are standing up for the children,” wrote one commenter on Facebook. “Such a wicked and evil organization Ronald McDonald has become. Hope you bring a challenge to this!!!”
“This is bulls— and so damn wrong,” another commenter wrote.
“I’m so sorry for what your family is going through.. lots of prayers your way!” a third person added.
On the dad’s Facebook post, he later wrote that his social worker found him accommodations similar to the Ronald McDonald House.
“Thanks again to all you who supported me. We are so grateful, encouraged, and loved,” he wrote.
