There are two parts on the human body that the pores are larger than any other areas on the body. Can you guess where those two areas are? Its important to know as these are areas on the body that absorb more of what is topically applied there than any other area of the body.

These two areas of the body (and pay attention here) are the armpits, and the groin. These two areas of the body have larger skin pores, so what products you put on these areas must be very highly vetted. You don’t want to be putting chemicals under your arms or on your groin from personal care products unknowingly.

The armpits are interesting in that there are specific lymphatic vessels as well as breast tissue for women very close to your armpits. Oddly enough, there are many chemicals in deodorants that are endocrine (hormone) disrupting.

Stop The Stink – The Natural Way

With all this being said, many people have this belief that there are no good natural deodorant products. This is simply not true, you just have to find one that works for you. Just like a haircare product that works for you may not work for me. We’ll look into a few different options for natural deodorants, but first, let’s address the dangerous and toxic chemicals in many underarm products that are worth avoiding. That way we can better direct our product compass!

Avoid These Toxic Chemicals in Underarm Products

Triclosan:

Triclosan is used in deodorants as an antibacterial chemical, this is a chemical that used in deodorants to kill odor-causing germs on the skin. The problem is that not only does it kill germs but it confuses your body by altering the hormonal system. Triclosan is a known endocrine disruptor, meaning it can mimic hormones or interfere with your delicate hormonal signaling.

Parabens:

Parabens are preservatives to keep the product preserved. The challenge with the body is that these chemicals are known to cause breast cancer. Women applying deodorant with parabens in it directly under their armpit, where their body has larger pores and near their breast is not advisable in any way, ever.

These chemicals are used to preserve the product, from having yeast, fungus or anything else growing on the deodorant. These same manufacturers could use natural essential oils instead however, but they are creating mainstream products for mainstream consumers that do not value their health, like yourself. This chemical can also be found in haircare products, click here to learn more.

Aluminum

Most of us have heard this one before. I’ve heard some people say “No natural deodorant works for me, so I’ll just stick with what I have even though it contains aluminum.” That’s a shocking statement. Aluminum is a metal that is known to be one of the most toxic substances on earth for humans to have interfere with their biology. It is known to cause not only breast cancer but it also accumulates in the body if the Kidneys cannot filter it efficiently.

Aluminum can cross the blood-brain barrier and when that happens the brain degrades and brain function, memory and many other cognitive processes can decline. You do NOT want excessive aluminum in your body, so don’t put it on your underarms!

Phthalates

This class of chemical is used to make the scents in the formula to stick, to stay so that it gives you that strong chemical smell! Sexy right!? Just kidding.

These chemicals are known to disrupt hormones, specifically within androgen receptors. This really harms testosterone production, which is a hormone that men have more of but women have also. As a man, you don’t want to risk using chemicals that reduce your precious testosterone production. Lowered testosterone production affects energy, sex drive and so much more.

These chemicals can also affect fetal development, so they can be carried on through pregnancy into your children!

Research links this chemical to lower IQ rates, meaning decreased brain function as well as higher rates of Asthma as it is a lung irritant.

This chemical can also be found in haircare products also, click here to learn more about dangerous chemicals in haircare formulas.

Fragrance

Fragrance is used in formulas to simply scent the formula. These are synthetically derived chemicals from petroleum by-products. These are not healthy and disrupt hormones once again, but can also be carcinogenic meaning that they are cancer-causing.

The crazy thing about fragrance is that this label of ‘fragrance’ can be used under trade law but it doesn’t necessarily reveal what fragrance is. It could be something incredibly harmful or dangerous to your biology that you don’t want to rub into your skin.

Keep in mind that your skin is the largest organ on your body and that it absorbs what you put on it. If you take a shower, your body absorbs about one cup of water each time you shower. If you apply a skin cream, our skin absorbs it. If you apply deodorant, it absorbs that too.

There are many natural deodorant alternatives, and i’ll be honest most do not work that well. I personally don’t wear deodorant as often as I used to. But I’ll wear it when i’m going out and don’t want to have any body odor.

The two best brand That I have found is called Pretty Frank.

hat I have personally found and used for natural deodorant is. Check out Pretty Frank Deodorant on Amazon by clicking here.

Also, please note that anti-perspirants are not good for your health in general. Your armpits and groin have the largest pores on your body for one main reason! These areas of the body are meant to sweat. To release fluid from the body. The body is meant to detoxify and sweat. By plugging those holes so that you do not sweat the body keeps all this toxic waste within and circulates it. Avoid anti-perspirants, and let your body sweat. It’s good to sweat!
