Gas prices have risen to a record-setting total of $4.43 nationwide within the last week, with residents of some states like California being forced to deal with prices as high as $6.00 or more.
The ongoing “pain at the pump” affects us all differently.
It also provides an opportunity for us to show kindness in many ways, and to help others when the time and situation calls for it.
In March 2016, one woman noticed a man crying at a gas pump. This story did not happen during these economic times, but it remains relevant and applicable to today’s world in so many ways.
While most people would look the other way, she decided to take action on the poor crying man’s behalf, and ultimately that decision is what made all the difference.
What She Did On a Cold Day in Minnesota Changed Lives
The woman, named Nicole Heintz, changed several lives with her actions that day.
Nicole posted her story online, giving the full account of what happened.
It all started when she pulled up to the pump on a cold winter’s day in Apple Valley, Minnesota, where it was 10 degrees and freezing cold with the wind.
The man was wearing flip-flops with socks covered in holes.
She looked at his car and saw the man’s three family members huddling up for whatever warmth they could find.
Nicole went up to the man, who appeared to be struggling in more ways than one.
That’s when she heard the most stunning, heart-stopping admission that few men would ever dare say to their family members, let alone to a stranger like her.
A Poor Man’s Stunning Admission
“He looked at me, and I could tell he was on the verge of giving up, because he didn’t even try to conceal his tears when he said, ‘I can’t even provide for my family.’”
Nicole’s response caused the man to spring into action.
His wife quickly got out of the car, revealing her dirty clothes to the woman as she watched what the man was doing.
That’s when Nicole had the opportunity to do yet another good deed.
Without giving it away, the woman’s response was incredible.
She and her daughters also sprung into action.
As the father finished pumping his gas, a crowd of onlookers formed.
From there, the love and generosity fest continued in a way that Nicole never could have predicted, a way she never had seen in her entire life.
