Watch: US Man Turns His Eye Into A Flashlight After Losing It To Cancer

A 33-year-old man in the United States named Drew Murray lost one of his eyes to cancer and subsequently had it replaced with a prosthetic eye. Murray worked with a team of engineers to design a special prosthetic eye that contained a small light inside it. This allowed him to use his eye as a flashlight, which he demonstrated in a video he posted on Instagram. The video attracted a lot of attention and has been widely shared on social media. It is unclear whether Murray’s invention is intended for use by other people with prosthetic eyes or if it is a one-of-a-kind creation.

When he had his eye removed from eye cancer he decided to use this eye socket as not just another empty hole or pirate patch, but instead to take it in the bionic direction and have a bit of a Tony Stark vibe! And that’s exactly what he did.

The video shows a brief demonstration of the capability of his Titanium Cyborg Eye as a headlamp.

He shares that it does not get hot (as you’d think it would) and that his nose and browline completely shield his other eye from the blinding nature of the light. How cool to have a light coming form your eye directing your path at night. It might be a bit creepy if this is the first time you see this however.

The eye light is battery powered and the battery lasts for 20 hours, quite the battery life! He shares that he manufactured and engineered this himself with titanium billet. He has now been using this eye light for an incredible two years to navigate at night, and read at night. He shares that it’s both comfortable and functional.
