Released in 1984, the original Ghostbusters movie was a work of art that was ahead of its time, grossing over $295 million at the box office.
As is often the case with these types of movies, Ghostbusters became a cult classic that is loved by people across the entire spectrum of moviegoers.
This goes without saying, but there are die-hard Ghostbusters fans who know every line and every scene in the movie, and know them like the back of their respective hands.
Despite this, there is one scene in the movie that seems to have gone over a lot of people’s heads, in large part because of how subtle it is and because the main character involved is Egon Spangler.
Spangler, the nerdy of scientist of the group, is also its cool-headed leader as part of a four-man outfit that includes loose cannons like Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Ray Stantz (Dan Akyroyd).
While Egon is known as the top scientific mind in the bunch, he also is a shrewd negotiator who always keeps the group’s bottom line in mind.
The scene in question is making the rounds on YouTube now, and has been viewed over 1 million times.
In it, we see a hidden Easter Egg that has diehard Ghostbusters fans talking.
It all revolves around the timeless classic scene where the Ghostbusters bust Slimer in the ballroom.
This is the scene that spawned millions of classic kids’ toys, and even the famous Ecto Cooler beverages from Hi-C, some might say.
Slimer rushes to escape the Ghostbusters’ attempts to capture him using their high-tech beam weapons, and a chase ensues, destroying the ballroom in the process.
Then, it’s time to get down to the most important matter: how much the gentlemen will be paid for their services.
Peter is the natural salesman of the group who typically does most of the talking, but this time around, Egon is the one leading the negotiations and making sure the crew gets their fair share.
He makes a surprising hand gesture during the end of the classic scene that has Ghostbusters fans talking and, well, we don’t want to ruin the surprise for you — so you probably should just check out scene in the video below.
“Got to love Harold Ramis (the actor who played Egon),” said one commenter. “He came up with the idea that Egon should not smile with the exception of some smirks. May he Rest In Peace.”
Another commenter saw it as a classic character and teamwork building moment between Egon and Peter.
“It actually makes sense to consult Egon and Ray,” they said.
“They handle the equipment so they know how much it will cost to purchase new equipment and upkeep( Logistics).”
Still other commenters don’t believe that the scene was anything hidden or out-of-the-ordinary, and said that many diehard Ghostbusters fans noticed it.
Now that the scene is set, we want to know what you think.
Did you notice this when the film first came out, and does it change how you remember the original Ghostbusters crew in any way, shape or form…?
