So, why do people go to yard sales, anyway?
You could say that most who do are looking for something unique, something special…A diamond in the rough of sorts.
Sometimes, the worth of these objects is miscalculated, however.
Sometimes, we get much more than we ever bargained for, in the best possible way.
That’s exactly what happened to Emil Nodell, age 67, a Texas native and a retired marketer director.
Scouring yard sales was one of his favorite hobbies, and something he became great at over the years.
But during one yard sale, the man found something that not even he, a seasoned “Antiques Roadshow” style pro, could have expected.
What Were the Strange Noises Emanating From The Man’s Dresser?
The yard sale attended by Emil was said to be thoroughly vetted, every item account for and examined before being placed as part of the sale.
Knowing this type of yard sale like the back of his hand, Emil thought that there was no way he would find anything like the item he brought home that day.
But looks can be deceiving.
Emil Searches for His Item of Choice
Eventually, the man settled on an old wooden dresser that dated back to the 1890s.
He went in for a closer look at the sides of dresser, and didn’t see anything special.
Then, he went in for a peek inside the dresser and didn’t notice anything unique either.
He asked about the price of the dresser.
“$100,” the appraiser said, even though it had been $300 just days earlier.
Emil thought he had found a bargain and started carrying the item to his car and immediately started hearing “strange rattling noises.”
That’s when everything changed.
What the Man Found and Why He Gave It Back
The man had found something he no one ever, ever expected: a secret compartment at the base of the dresser.
His heart began racing as he opened the secret drawer. The man literally could not believe his eyes.
