There were over 3.7 million births in the United States in 2019, a rate of 11.4 per 1,000 women, and most go according to plan.
But one pregnancy story revealed in a viral TikTok post with over 7 million views and 775,000 likes has at least one doctor questioning what is possible all over again.
Most people have never heard of an ectopic pregnancy, but the sight of it is said to be shocking to many people.
The condition occurs when a fetus begins growing inside of a woman’s liver, and it has the Internet talking as news of the viral post spreads across the Web.
Viral TikTok of Rare Liver Pregnancy Revealed
“I thought I had seen it all,” TikTok’s narrator Dr. Michael Narvey, a pediatrician at Children’s Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba in Canada, says in the video below.
The woman, age 33, had been suffering from abdomen pain and 14-day vaginal bleeding in 2006.
After 49 days without a menstrual cycle, an ultrasound of her uterus found nothing out of the ordinary.
Then, further imaging discovered the shocking truth of what was going on inside her body.
However, further imaging found something abnormal between her liver and stomach – a fetus.

“She had an ectopic pregnancy in her liver,” Narvey said in the TikTok as the ultrasound plays in the background. “We see these sometimes in the abdomen, but never in the liver. This is a first for me.”
This situation happens when a fertilized egg implants and grows outside of the main cavity of the uterus, the Mayo Clinic said.
It typically happens in fallopian tubes and rarely happens in the abdomen.
The case report stated that this type of pregnancy in the liver is “exceptionally rare” and only 14 had been reported worldwide as of November 1999.
The woman had another surgery where she was found to have internal bleeding.
The fetus was unable to be saved, sadly.
“This is a first for me,” Narvey told his viewers. “Have you ever seen this? I haven’t.”
