If your thyroid and liver are struggling, you may enjoy this soothing and restorative mocktail that supports your liver and thyroid function.
Sipping on this warming blend of anti-inflammatory spices and liver-loving ingredients is a great way to nourish your body while still joining in the festivities. The liver is the body’s main detoxification organ, working hard to filter out toxins and keep our internal systems running smoothly. Meanwhile, the thyroid helps regulate metabolism, body temperature, heart rate, and more. Supporting these two key organs can help you feel your best during a season filled with rich foods and drinks.
This healing mocktail recipe is a perfect substitute for eggnog for anyone with dietary restrictions or choices such as vegan or those with egg allergies. It features ingredients like turmeric, ginger, cinnamon and coconut milk. Turmeric contains the potent anti-inflammatory compound curcumin, while ginger also packs anti-inflammatory effects to soothe the liver. Coconut milk adds a creamy, comforting base.
The dynamic flavors will warm you from the inside out and help support liver detoxification and thyroid health after all your feasting. So brew up a batch, gather round with loved ones, and toast to a holiday season that boosts your well-being along with the festive mood!
Golden Nog-Not
This soothing mocktail takes inspiration from golden milk, a traditional Ayurvedic drink hailing from India. It brings together warming spices and liver-loving ingredients like fresh turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and honey for a healing beverage perfect for holiday celebrations.
Full-fat coconut milk provides a rich, creamy base along with healthy fats to support thyroid and liver function. Then we grate fresh turmeric and ginger root to harness their potent anti-inflammatory compounds like curcumin and gingerol. The bright golden turmeric root also lends its vibrant color and earthy flavor.
Cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove add hints of sweet spice often used in holiday baking. Cinnamon balances blood sugar, while clove contains antimicrobial properties that support immune health. We finish it off with a drizzle of raw honey and vanilla for soothing sweetness.
All together, these ingredients add up to a mocktail that eases digestion, reduces inflammation, supports detoxification, and warms you from the inside out. The dynamic flavors blend together into a comforting, healing beverage for your holiday festivities.
Sip this golden milk mocktail before your Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving feast to optimize your liver’s natural detoxification processes. Or enjoy it after eating to relax your body and mind. However you choose to incorporate it, this mocktail taps into ancient Ayurvedic wisdom to nourish your health and vitality.
How to Serve Golden Nog-Not
Golden Milk is typically served warm, which is how I also prefer to drink it. I usually warm it gently over low heat. If you are new to the flavor of turmeric, boiling the milk (the traditional way to prepare it in Ayurveda) reduces the bitterness in the turmeric. If the little stray fibers from grated ginger bother you, strain off the milk through a fine mesh sieve before you drink it.
How to Store Golden Nog-Not
I have noticed that Golden Milk tends to become more pungent after it sits for 2 to 3 days in the refrigerator. But it really is best consumed right away—it kind of makes you slow down to both make it and enjoy it.

Method
– Heat the coconut milk:
In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, warm the coconut milk until you see a little bit of steam, about 2 to 3 minutes.
– Add the spices:
Add the ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom, clove, nutmeg, sea salt, and black pepper, and gently whisk to combine. Add the vanilla extract, and whisk to combine. Take the milk off the heat, allow it to cool slightly.
Taste the milk using a spoon, and adjust as needed. Does it need more spice? Add some ginger. Is it not sweet enough to your liking? Add a little more honey, or try maple syrup. Do the flavors seem like they aren’t speaking loudly enough to you overall? Add another pinch of salt.
– Simmer:
Let the golden milk come to a bare simmer—you might see some bubbles on the sides of the pot, you might see some frothy action on the surface—and then turn off the heat. This step helps reintegrate the flavors after you’ve made any adjustment with spices.
– Strain and serve:
Strain off any lingering fibrous bits of ginger through a fine mesh sieve. Pour it into your favorite mug and stir in your honey, sprinkle it with a bit more of ground turmeric and/or cinnamon.
