We’ve all heard the phrase “Dogs are a man’s best friend” but hearing stories to back that up surely warms the heart.
The story comes from Brazil. A homeless man in the city of Cianorte suffered a stroke and was taken to the hospital and his six dogs chased the ambulance for miles until it arrived at the hospital. Once they arrived at the hospital the dogs watched the man get carried into the Santa Cara hospital for treatment and they simply sat out front of the hospital and waited, and waited. For 24 hours.
Not only that but these loyal pups howled outside the hospital until he was released. They stayed vigil just outside the front door of the hospital, awaiting his return.
“The dogs were desperate,” Simone Zilane, a volunteer with the NGO organization Amigos de Patas Cianorte, told G1. “They followed the ambulance, racing after it down the roads and arrived just as Luis was being taken into the hospital. They went mad as they took him in and howled at the entrance.
Zilane, who took pictures of the dogs, said Luis was discharged a day later. The dogs none the wiser as he left through another exit with his brother.
“One of our volunteers at the NGO had to fetch Luis at his brothers house and take him to where the dogs were for them to leave the front of the hospital.” Zilane added “He hadn’t realized the dogs were outside that whole time but he wasn’t too surprised.”
Luis lives on the streets with his dogs. The NGO claims that he refused to live with his brothers and claims that the streets are his home. He’s lived on the streets for two decades.
Amigas De Patas shares that Luis has been homeless for more than 20 years after he was diagnosed with psychiatric problems. After this he did not want to live with his brothers. He considers his dogs his family.
“We rented a very simple house for him a while ago, with a big backyard for the dogs, but he did not accept or enter the house, She told G1. “He said his house is the street.”
She added “At the time the dogs were also taken to a kennel, which a volunteer from the NGO created, but they escaped by jumping the wall and going after Luiz. Wherever he is you can guarantee that the dogs are not very far away.”
After this health scare Luis did take a plate of food and a shower. The dogs were also given food and water. According to the NGO he was back on the street with his backpack by the very next weekend.
